Have Hard Time Getting Out of Bed? Try These 4 Tricks…

Never been a morning person? Not sure it’s possible? Try these 4 tricks for waking up when you really don’t want to.

I spent my first 32 years of life not being a morning person. I hated getting out of bed. Not only that, but I felt tired no matter how much sleep I had received.

Then I started studying morning routines and all the benefits that come from starting your day right. If you haven’t read my article on the Morning Routine that Will Transform Your Day, that’s a great place to start. This article is an extension of that.

Obviously there is so MUCH that goes into sleep and why you are tired, we can’t get into that in one article.

But if you need to be up at a certain time and you have developed a habit for hitting the snooze button, here are a few tricks for getting out of bed when you need to be up:

4 Tricks When You Have a Hard Time Getting out of Bed

  • Put Your Alarm across the Room or in the bathroom

I learned this trick while listening to a podcast by Hal Elrod, author of the Miracle Morning. This simple step alone should prevent you from hitting the snooze button because you have no other choice than to get up, or be annoyed by the constant ringing of your alarm. Either way, you probably aren’t going back to sleep. Once you get up to turn off your alarm, try the following 3 suggestions before you are tempted to climb back into bed:

  • Drink a Glass of water

Your body has been sleeping all night without any water. Not only will a quick drink help you rehydrate, but it will probably help waken up your system and give you a little more energy. I like to keep a glass by my nightstand or in my bathroom

  • Brush Your Teeth

Brushing your teeth will also help wake you up, and not only that…it needs to be done anyway, so might as well do it first thing!

  • Wash Your Face

Washing your face immediately upon waking will help you feel refreshed and more awake. If your extra groggy, only use cold water.

If you do all of these suggestions for getting out of bed and still struggle feeling like you will ever be a morning person, read our article on how to AMP up your morning with a good morning routine.
